Let me introduce myself
My name is Colleen McCown. I was born and raised in Missouri, but moved to Hawaii fresh out of college. I have lived and worked in Honolulu for 14 years now. I currently work full time at Waikiki Elementary School in the SpEd Dept. This is my 10th year in my current position. I love it. In the Fall of 2018 I began the Master of Social Work program at UH and added full time student to my bag of tricks! I also teach circus arts and hoop dance to students enrolled in our mindful enrichment program after school. I fire dance professionally with a group called “Kalalea” which I also captain here on Oahu. Recently I’ve become very passionate about aerial dance. I have been taking classes at Samadhi Hawaii for 6 years and I also teach aerial foundations and hula hoop dance there. I am a proud Hoop Love Coach and love learning and growing as a dancer and teacher. I have been a member of the flow arts community for 14 years and started hooping about 6 years ago. The hula hoop has deepened and enhanced my flow practice in countless ways. I am so in love! I believe that there is tremendous potential for transformation and healing through movement and dance. Dancing has carried me through some dark and difficult times in my life. I hope eventually to expand my teaching to a more holistic healing approach and facilitate movement practice to aid in recovery from addiction and depression and to help build confidence and self-esteem. I hope to empower others to become the best versions of themselves!
