Hi, I’m Debbie. I like nothing better than to dance, hula hoop and take photographs – sometimes all at the same time! I entered the hooping world in 2010 when a friend pointed me in the direction of the talented Emma Kenna at Hooping Mad. From that very first workshop I was hooked. How could I resist? Hooping ignites my creative inner child and makes my heart sing.
I have gone on to set up Rise Hoop Dance; teaching classes, hosting workshops, writing a hooping blog and making children’s hula hoops.
In my other life, I’m a primary school Learning Mentor. I’ve been working in education for over 15 years and I just love sharing my passion for hoop dance with children. Why? Well, because it is a fantastic way of facilitating children to have fun, get active and shine bright so they can be the best version of themselves.
I teach weekly kids classes in Bristol and have choreographed hoop routines for dance groups. Rise Hoop Dance Hoopettes have performed at Bristol’s Colston Hall, appeared on TV and have supported local community events.
When I’m not spinning in circles I can be found rummaging through vintage stores, rambling through the Somerset countryside and throwing yogic shapes on the mat. Nature and creativity make me one happy lady!
