I have been a professional dancer for many years and began learning different circus skills 8 years ago. I first learned aerial arts and this opened to the door to many other circus skills including stilt walking, fire, and of course, hula hooping. My agent asked if I could offer a hula hoop performance at one of my performances so I decided to give it a go. I completely fell in love! My first hula hoop performance was onboard the Celebrity Summit in the crew talent show – even the Captain came to watch! I was working onboard as part of the production company.
At the beginning of this year – I decided to open a circus school for children and it has blossomed and grown massively in just 8 months! Hooping is a part of our weekly circus class and the children love it. It has been fantastic to increase my repertoire and knowledge of hoop moves – and to also have a name to refer them to (I just used to make up the names of the pretty moves I’d do!) Some of my children are mastering quite difficult level moves and it’s so rewarding to see them improve.
