Serina Ariel Figueroa started dancing the hula with “Halau O Kanoelani” at four years old and has continued throughout her life. She also did some tap dance and tumbling as a little girl. It was when she was 14 that she discovered Hoop Dance through a Rachael Lust YouTube video. After seeing that video she and her friend Loa started learning from YouTube tutorials and each other. Since then Serina has performed with her hoops many times including two solos in the Arizona Aloha Festival for a crowd of nearly a thousand, Show Low’s annual Feast Of Carols 2016, 2017 and 2018 and Show Low’s Independence Day Parade 2018 and 2019. In October 2017 Serina attended a Hula Hoop Workshop taught by Rachael Lust (the world-renowned hoop dancer who inspired her) and In August 2019 Serina became a certified Hoop Love Coach. Serina is currently the only Hula Hoop teacher in the White Mountains area. She is now teaching Hoop Dance at the Canyon Creek Performing Arts Studio. Serina is passionate about dance and absolutely loves the Hula Hoop! “Sometimes when I dance, I feel like I can do anything. Dance makes my heart feel full. It makes me feel happy, confident and beautiful. I can’t wait to share this with all who wish to receive it!” – Serina
